The Montmartre Grape Harvest Festival is coming back soon!
Did you know that the City of Paris has its own vineyard like the region of Bordeaux, Burgundy, Alsace or the Loire Valley? Indeed, a few steps away from the Sacré-Cœur, at the foot of the famous Montmartre hill, grows the Vineyard of Montmartre, the wine from which is called "le Clos Montmartre". Montmartre Vineyard counts almost 2,000 vines that produce 2,200 lb of grapes on average. The grapes are harvested each year in October and then pressed, fermented and bottled in the cellar of the 18th district city hall.
Since 1934, every second weekend in October, the 18th district of Paris has celebrated its wine-growing tradition as well as the arrival of the new "Clos Montmartre" cuvée. This year, the Montmartre Grape Harvest Festival (La Fête des Vendanges de Montmartre in French) will be back for its 85th edition, taking place from October 10th to 14th for five joyous days of celebration. On this occasion, the legendary Montmartre district will offer many activities and entertainment (nearly 150 events!) to the delight of young and old alike: exhibitions, concerts, guided tours of the vineyard, tastings, parades, not forgetting the unmissable closing ball. People of the 18th district will welcome Parisians and tourists in a joyful and festive atmosphere to celebrate the 2018 edition of the Montmartre Grape Harvest Festival together, the theme of which is Peace, thus marking the end of the centenary commemorations of the First World War. So, during your Parisian getaway in one of our boutique hotels, do not miss this thrilling event!
